From his moms, Dana & Melanie:
It has taken almost a week for this post…..Last Tuesday, Gus did not eat breakfast. When he didn’t eat dinner and threw up, he earned a trip to the vet Wednesday morning. After a full day of fluids and antibiotics he came home but was not better and he went back to the vet Thursday morning. By mid-day Thursday it was clear he was a sick boy. An ultrasound revealed a tumor on his spleen that was bleeding and was metastatic creating another tumor on the back of his heart. Hemangiosarcoma. No treatment. No cure. Fatal. We lost him at 5:45 Thursday. He had no symptoms and almost perfect blood work and in 48 hours he was gone. We lost our handsome, complex, protective, strong, funny, loving boy. Gus has been the center of our world for 9 years. His birthday is this month. He was too young and this is not fair. We are lost, sad, shocked and overwhelmed with grief. Our house is heavy, quiet and confused. His empty crate with his stuff sits untouched in the den. It will never be the same. We love you so so very much Gus.
