Our sweet Cookie, mom to Elsa and Anna, has been adopted!! Cookie convinced her foster mom, Barbara, that they belonged together fur-ever, and they made it official! They’re having lots of fun going on adventures and trying new things like nose work where she did extremely well despite a moderator prejudiced against her for not being a traditional hound.
And just what breed, you ask, IS Cookie? She is, obviously, 70% American pitbull terrier but you’ll never guess what she’s mixed with: equal parts Cane Corso and Presa de Canario!! How she’s hiding those giant breed genes in her compact little body is anyone’s guess. 🙂
Barbara says that walking with Cookie has given her a new perspective on the world around her; because Cookie is very alert to these things, Barbara now notices animals and birds she’d have completely overlooked before. And night walks have given Barbara a new appreciation for the stars.
Cookie was rescued from the Balch Springs shelter where she’d remained long after her daughters had been adopted. When a business matter brought Barbara to RHS Dana’s office, they began to talk about dogs (shocking, we know!). Dana asked if Barbara, who’d recently lost her dog, Maggie, would be interested in fostering a dog who really needed a chance. Barbara agreed and the rest is history.
Cookie will be keeping her name because she’s so sweet, although she’s occasionally called “Maggie-Lottie-Sugar-Cookie” which combines her name with those of Barbara’s pets who’ve gone on before her. 🙂
Thanks to Dana for making sure Cookie wasn’t left behind and to Barbara for fostering and adopting her. Happy tails!
