Our sweet Ivy was adopted last night by a fun family with no other dogs; just what Ivy needed!
In September 2014, the police found Ivy chained to a trailer. She was scared, malnourished, and unsocialized. The police took her to the Balch Springs Shelter, and that’s where RHS came in. Dana Huffman pulled Ivy from the shelter, and David and Caitlyn Banowsky fostered her. David and Caitlyn helped Ivy acclimate to life in a home. She learned love, she learned to play with toys, and she was restored to a healthy weight.
As Ivy learned that human love and compassion are great, she became protective of her foster family and began to show jealousy of other dogs. Because the Banowskys had much smaller dogs, Ivy was moved to K-9 for training for safety, then to Glady Fung’s foster home.
Gladys, who was also fostering Vega, took care of Ivy until she was adopted last night. Gladys was never really able to leave Ivy and Vega together unattended. Ivy was unpredictable, playing and sleeping next to Vega one moment, then snapping at Vega for no apparent reason. Sweet Vega was submissive and never reacted aggressively. Over time, Ivy’s confidence and behavior improved, but she was still unpredictable, and we all knew the best home for her was one without other dogs. Sometimes this takes a bit longer, but patience paid off for Ivy last night!
Thanks to Ivy’s rescuers, to Dana Huffman for pulling her from the shelter, to David, Caitlyn, and Gladys for fostering her, and to all the volunteers who helped Ivy along the way!
