After almost 13 years of companionship Savannah crossed over the Rainbow Bridge.
Savannah joined our family in about October of 2002; Jill and I had just been married a few months and brought her home. We believe Savannah was close to 16 years old. Everything about Savannah is a vivid memory even the adoption process. I remember going to Petsmart in Plano and checking her out, and people told me that they had no clue why she had not been adopted. Maybe it was the bugs or the lights she wanted to chase and not pay attention to them. It was all-better for us that she was not adopted by anyone else. Jill told me if you want her bring her home, but it needed to be a family decision and so we met the foster family at the park with Savannah. We asked what might have been a ton of questions, and sometimes we received the same answer, which was fun. Two of those questions; how is she with kids? We don’t have any yet but have nieces. Response; we don’t know but she is GREAT with other dogs. Question two; how is she with cats, because we do have a cat. Response; we don’t know but she is GREAT with other dogs. Needless to say we took her and took our chances.
We followed RHS instructions on how to introduce the cat and dog and it worked. Stormy (the cat) made her choice of when she would come across the safety gate and I remember the day where I thought we made a mistake, Savannah took off after the cat and I thought OH KNOW!!! Then the cat was chasing Savannah out of the room. They were best buddies and playmates from then on.
February 2004 we added a new member to our family and her name was Julianna (JuJu). Savannah took to our daughter with no problem. She sat protective of her when strange people (to Savannah) entered the house and laid with her other times. Then December 2006 we had a son and Savannah took to him just as well. So all of our questions were answered by December 2006. Yes Savannah was good with cat and children.
Savannah was so good with children; we had a neighbor who has a daughter who was terrified of dogs. We would take Savannah to the grandparent’s house of have her hang in our room, which she did not care for much because she was a social dog. One day for Charlie’s birthday party we did not take Savannah anywhere else. Our neighbor came down for the party and was stopped in her tracks when she saw Savannah. Well by the end of the party this little girl was using her as a pillow and leading her around by the collar.
Through the years Savannah has been a faithful companion for everyone in our family. We are saddened that she has left us. She truly was the BEST DOG EVER!!!
Thank you to everyone at RHS who brought her into our lives for the last 13 years.
Sincerely
Shay, Jill, Julianna and Charlie
