Not all rescue stories can have a happy ending, and we’re so sorry to report this is one of those times where we need our community to rally around us and keep us in your thoughts.
Last year RHS took on a very pregnant community cat who tested positive for FeLV (feline leukemia virus). Mama cat Honeybun gave birth to some of the sweetest little pastries you’ve ever met, but unfortunately they contracted this virus as well.
While we always hope for the best, the lifespan for an FeLV cat is often shortened due to their weakened immune system.
To further complicate things, most of our designated cat foster homes have resident cats, and we needed a place for the Bun litter to go where there weren’t resident cats who could catch this horrible virus.
Leasa Isom, our wonderful medical coordinator, member of our board, and volunteer for over 20 years stepped up and offered her home to these kittens and they’ve been with her ever since as fospice kittens.
Yesterday Churro, one of the Buns, went to ER where we learned his poor body was being ravaged by cancer and we had to make the incredibly hard decision to let him go peacefully.
Please keep Churro’s siblings Donut, Fritter, Beignet in your thoughts as we know they’ll be missing their brother. But most of all, please help us in keeping Leasa in our thoughts and prayers. Too many of us know the pain she is feeling of losing one of her beloved four-legged family members
We’re asking for donations to help cover the cost of Churro’s vet visit yesterday and to help us raise money in anticipation of this year’s kitten season so we can save more sweet babies like Churro.
He was so very, very loved and we will miss him more than we can say.
