I wanted to write to thank you for the care you provide to some of the most wonderful animals and, specifically in my case, my best friend. I adopted Finn (known at that time as Blackey) in July 2007. I had just finished college the month before and was moving back to Texas to take my first real job. My sister had seen Finn at an adoption event in Richardson and told me to stop by to see him one day, I believe at the PetsMart off of Coit Rd. As soon as I met him, Finn gave me a “hug” like only he could, and I knew I was his.
I have been so fortunate to call Finn my best friend for the last 14 years, essentially all of my adult life. Finn had to approve of my now wife, Kara, and then became her comforter and protector when I shortly thereafter went to med school and worked many nights in the hospital. A few years later, when Finn was exceptionally clingy to her for a few days, my wife and I both believe Finn knew Kara was pregnant before either of us knew. Once his sister Katherine was born, he was always by her side. I recently went back through some of our photos, and it is hard to find a picture of Katherine in our house without her loving big brother Finn somewhere in the frame. We moved across the country twice for my medical training, and wherever we found ourselves, it felt like home because Finn was with us. We have so many Finn stories and I wish I could share all of them, but the short version is that he was the most loving and loyal friend I could ever dream to have beside me through all these major life changes, and I am so thankful to have had him in my life.
Finn passed away a couple weeks ago, and I am still having difficulty finding adequate words to express my gratitude for the work that you all do. Without it, I wouldn’t have had Finn in my life. I cannot imagine those years and life changes without him, and I am forever grateful to have had the opportunity to meet him and get a Finn hug at that PetsMart in July 2007.
Thank you for all that you do to care for dogs like Finn. I have attached a few of my favorite photos of him, and I hope that you will be able to share with the rest of the Richardson Humane Society to share my gratitude.
Best regards,
John Watson
