Next to go home tonight was our sweet Reba. Reba has been in the program for quite awhile – fostered by Gail Teel, the Paschal family, and Pat Rotundo, boarded and trained at K-9, adopted and returned, then boarded again. HUGE thanks to Amy Drouillard and K-9 University for coordinating Reba’s visits at K-9 with her new family and to Amy and Gladys Fung for doing the home visit.
From Amy: Reba’s new family, the Keeppers, saw her pictures on the RHS website and fell in love with her. They were looking for a dog that would be a good companion to and bond well with their 17-year-old daughter, Rebekka, and thought Reba would be perfect. Her good looks attracted them, and her loving personality sealed the deal. And as a bonus, Rebekka’s childhood nickname was “Reba Jean” so they thought Reba’s name was a sign that it was meant to be!
After a positive initial meeting at K9, Rebekka started visiting K9 almost daily for more than a week, to play with Reba and learn her commands. (HUGE thanks to Andy and the staff at K9 for facilitating this and guiding everyone through to a happy ending!!). Her step-dad, Gene, and mom, Denean, also went once more, to make sure everyone fit together well before moving ahead with the adoption.
As we all know, Reba has trouble accepting men, but she’s learning to become comfortable with her new dad, and he’s OK with taking it slowly and on her terms.
It took some some time and a lot of patience, but Reba has found her family.
